Caring for a treasured building
The Friends of St Mary's are a group of people who care deeply about this church building — a Grade I listed treasure at the heart of Ware. Our purpose is to preserve its history and ensure it remains in good order for worship, for the community, and for all who visit.
You do not need to be a churchgoer to be a Friend. Everyone who loves this remarkable building is welcome to join us in looking after it.
Preserve & repair
We assist in the maintenance, preservation and repair of the church as a building of historical and architectural importance.
Promote community
We promote St Mary's as a centre for community and cultural activity — a place for the whole town to gather and enjoy.
Raise funds
We raise money for the preservation and repair of this important local building, complementing the work of the church itself.
What we have made possible
Through the generosity of our members and supporters, the Friends have contributed over £30,000 to major projects that keep St Mary's standing strong and beautiful.
Organ & font
Contributions towards work on the historic Hill organ and the restoration of the church's font.
The West Window
Support for the repair of the great West Window, keeping its glass safe and radiant.
Access, sound & light
Accessibility ramps, enhanced sound and lighting systems, and the redecoration of the nave.
