A rich musical tradition

Where words take wing

Singing is at the heart of worship at St Mary's. Our choir leads the Parish Eucharist each Sunday and sings Evensong through the month, drawing on the great treasury of Anglican church music — from plainsong and Tudor polyphony to the finest hymns.

Sing with St Mary's Choir

Our friendly choir sings at the 10am Parish Eucharist and leads Choral and Sung Evensong on the first and third Sundays of the month. We rehearse regularly and welcome new singers of all voices.

Whether you are an experienced chorister or simply love to sing, there is a warm welcome and a place for you in the stalls. The ability to read music helps, but enthusiasm matters most.

The Hill Organ

A voice of 1860

St Mary's is home to a distinguished three-manual organ built by William Hill in 1860, one of the great English organ builders of the Victorian age. Housed in a fine carved Gothic case, it has accompanied the church's worship for more than 160 years.

The instrument was rebuilt in 1985 and comprehensively refurbished in 2016, ensuring its magnificent sound will lead praise for generations to come. It is regularly heard not only in services but in recitals and concerts throughout the year.
